Possible names of the newspaper:

Poole Guardian

Pros: This name seems to communicate fairness as well as honesty. When I think about the word guardian things such as protector and servant come to mind. With regards to newspapers this could make readers believe that the newspaper is honest and will report on everything important around them.

Cons: Although the name has conations of protector and such it also seems a bit overbearing and somewhat aggressive. I want the newspaper to be as appealing as possible so perhaps having a word which has associations with violence is perhaps the wrong way to go about it.

Poole Telegraph

Pros:  The Poole Telegraph seems to be crafted for the individual therefore making the reading experience very individual. As telegraphs used to be sent between 2 people this name seems very tailored to the reader. As well as having this individual feel to it also has connotations of old and therefore a long running newspaper.

Cons: Having connotations of being old, telegraph may not be a good choice to appeal to younger readers who use modern technology.

Poole Mail

Pros: Very common name for a newspaper. It is also very basic but also straight to the point.

Cons: Naming this my newspaper can have negative effects. Mail is in the modern day associated with bill and payments therefore calling a newspaper this may deter readers from purchasing it as they could believe it will deliver bad news.

Poole Daily

Pros: For a local newspaper this is an ideal name as it informs the reader that the paper is published every day. The word daily may imply current news and up to date information which in a newspaper is key.

Cons: The name doesn’t sound very interesting as it is seen so commonly. However in conjunction with another word it may be more interesting.

Below are some basic layouts. I have compiled these layouts as a guide which I researched from other high profile newspapers. when constructing my newspaper I will constantly refer to these layouts as a guide.
